Traditionally, Gold has always been looked upon as an investment for financial security, serving investors beyond just its aesthetic value. Its ability to be a store of value as well as potential for capital growth over the years are contributing factors.
To hold gold in its traditional, physical form however comes with certain disadvantages. Purity concerns, risk of loss, high cost of storage, making charges and high costs of liquidation, to name a few.
Aditya Birla Sun Life Gold Fund is a fund of fund scheme that invests in units of the Aditya Birla Sun Life Gold ETF. This in turn holds gold of 99.5% certified purity in its portfolio. This Mutual Fund investment can be held without the need for having an active DEMAT account.
Investing through a fund of fund gets the benefits of gold investing while eliminating the risks of physical holding along with ease of investing benefits. The additional benefits you can get include purity and safety assurance, low minimum investment, ability to invest via SIP, low cost of investing and ease of liquidation.

The Scheme aims to allocate a minimum of 95% of its net assets to units of Aditya Birla Sun Life Gold ETF
It may also invest a small portion (up to 5%) in debt and money market instruments (including cash equivalent) to manage its liquidity requirements.
The scheme is passively managed and aims to track and replicate the returns generated by the underlying scheme i.e.: Aditya Birla Sun Life Gold ETF
Value Added Products
- Systematic Transfer Plan (STP) investing allows investors to periodically transfer a pre-decided investment amount from this fund into any other open ended fund of Aditya Birla Sun Life
- STP facility is available on daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis
- Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) investing allows investors to provide standing instructions for periodic withdrawal of specified amounts from investment in the fund.
- The withdrawal can be ‘fixed withdrawal’ which specifies a fixed amount, or ‘appreciation withdrawal’ which provides for withdrawal of capital appreciation at periodic intervals
- From daily to annual withdrawals, several period withdrawal options are available to investors
- Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) investing allows investors to invest pre-determined sums of money regularly and at periodic intervals (monthly or weekly) in the fund
- Potential to give investors benefit of compounding over the long term. Furthermore, through rupee cost averaging helps better manage market volatility
- SIP facility is augmented by several add ons such as Step-up SIPs, Pause SIP, Multi Scheme SIPs, Century SIP etc.
Tax Applicability
For any investments purchased after March 31, 2025 (or prior to April 1, 2023) and redeemed after April 1, 2025:
- Short Term Capital Gains will be taxed for investments held within 24 months at income slab rate
- Long Term Capital Gains will now be taxed for investments held beyond 24 months at 12.5%
For units purchased between April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2025, the same will be taxed at slab rate
